Who am I?
As I recall, the Vorlons had issues answering this question.
I'm a student in physics and a former programmer+ (see my LinkedIn profile). While I have selected physics for my career, I am attracted to all "hard" sciences including mathematics, chemistry, and biology. I also have a soft spot for psychology and anthropology.
I love mysteries--Sherlock Holmes, Columbo, Ms. Marple, Monk, Inspector Lynley, Poirot, etc. I also love zombie movies. Actually, I'm a sucker for zombie flicks...but even I couldn't get behind Diary of the Dead.
Miles V. Aronnax or Luke M. Wilson?
On June 3rd, 2008, I had my name legally changed from "Luke Matthew Henry Wilson" to "Miles Vincent Aronnax." The new name was chosen to represent a set of traits which I have or want. If you are really interested in the reasoning, just drop me a line.
To reduce the error bars?
This is a quote from Carl Sagan's The Demon Haunted World:
"We will always be mired in error. The most each generation can hope for is to reduce the error bars a little, and to add to the body of data to which the error bars apply."
It may seem a little nihilistic at first, but it grows on you. Well, I don't know that. Actually, it resonated with me...then again, I'm a little nihilistic.
What is that curvy thing in the corner?
Hmm? Ah, that is a 3D plot of an antisymmetric wave function. You can play with it yourself in my quick Maple primer. Here is a better image in case you don't have Maple or don't want to download the PDF.
